For caregivers
We help caregivers handle difficult situations and navigate care for their loved ones.
Caring for a loved one with dementia is demanding – physically, mentally and practically.
We help caregivers find their bearings, understand the disease and find a way to manage care as well as possible.
Alzheimer Point
Alzheimer Point is a counselling centre for caregivers and people with cognitive impairment. Its aim is to provide free professional counselling and support. It helps both families caring for a loved one with dementia and people living with cognitive impairment themselves. We fund the centre so that it can remain completely free of charge for visitors.
Alzheimer Café
Alzheimer Café is a pleasant, informal meeting place for people with dementia, their loved ones and professionals. Once a month, visitors can share not only their worries but also their experiences and the joys of caregiving with others. In a safe environment and with the support of invited experts, people learn about a range of topics and, above all, that despite appearances they are never alone in this. We organise it together with Centrum Seňorina.
Alzheimer Café has three main goals:
- To provide clear information on the medical, psychosocial and other aspects that people with dementia and their relatives encounter.
- To talk openly about dementia and everything the disease brings with it – without taboos, without fear and with respect.
- To offer unconditional support to anyone who encounters dementia, in any situation.
Because we know from our own experience how hard it is to convey to others everything that Alzheimer's disease and other dementias bring into a family, Alzheimer Café was created, among other things, as an opportunity to meet once a month with people going through the same thing.
In addition, an expert is invited to every meeting to share information on a specific topic in a conversation with the host, and visitors can turn to them with their questions. The topics are chosen to help visitors understand how dementia works and what it brings with it. They also touch on the sensitive issues that arise in caregiving and that both people with dementia and their carers have to come to terms with. Some topics are demanding and sensitive, but we believe that being able to talk about them makes them easier to cope with. Visitors to Alzheimer Café thus gain not only information but also comfort, encouragement and the knowledge that they are not alone.
Alzheimer Café Prague takes place on the first Tuesday of every month from 6 p.m. at the Mlsná kavka café. Thanks to the support of our donors it is completely free for all participants, and there is no need to register in advance. All you need is good spirits and a desire to learn something new about dementia together.
The Prague Alzheimer Café is audio recorded, and the recording is available on YouTube within about a month.
